Contra Costa SELPA's model of facilitation for Resolution Meetings has proven highly successful in the first year of implementation. Drawing on techniques from IEP facilitation and local mediation, our trained Resolution Meeting Managers lead participants through a simple process of reviewing issues, clarifying positions, analyzing differences and writing agreements. Justice afforded by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), is largely dependent on: 1) the parents and educators knowledge of the responsibilities and limitations under this law and others, and 2) the parents and educators ability to effectively advocate their respective positions for the student and work together productively to either prevent disputes or resolve them when they arise.
