Edith Primm (Edie) has been with the Justice Center of Atlanta since its inception in 1977 as one of the three nationwide DOJ pilot projects designed to test the efficacy of ADR throughout the country. Edie has served as Deputy Director, Executive Director, director of Research and Development for the Center and assumed her current position in 2004. Under her direction, the Justice Center developed the mediation training program that has been taught to over 50,000 persons worldwide. In addition Edie has negotiated regional and national contracts for the Center with, among others, the U.S. Postal Service, The United States Navy, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of State, the United States Department of Defense, and the Atlanta District office of the EEOC. Edie has served as an arbitrator in the hearings held under the Dalkon Shield class action dispute resolution process and is currently a mediator in the Solomon Smith Barney and Merrill Lynch class action dispute resolution processes, involving roughly 3,000 gender discrimination claims per firm. She is also an arbitrator for the Smith Barney class action process and for the CPR Institute of Dispute Resolution. In July 2003, Edie was a member of only the 3rd arbitration panel to hear a Smith Barney claim since the 1996 settlement was reached. In the previous 2 cases, there was a plaintiff and a defendant's verdict. Thus, this 3rd case may well determine if other cases go to arbitration or return to the mediation option, where most claims have settled. Edie is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association and its Dispute Resolution Section, and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. After the terrorists' attacks on 9/11 (when she was 1/2 mile away from the Pentagon), she joined the Georgia State Defense Force, a branch of the Georgia State Department of Defense, where she holds the rank of Major.
