Please join us for the annual Special Education Law Symposium held on the beautiful campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Registration and detailed symposium content will be available in January of 2018 at the symposium website: go.lehigh.edu/spedlaw.

The sold out 2017 symposium was the most successful to date with 170+ registrants from across the country, instructed during the course of the week by twenty prominent special education attorneys from ten states, carefully balanced to provide school and parent perspectives.

The 2018 symposium will again include a separable two-day (June 28-29) Section 504 Coordinators Institute, designed to provide both a conceptual framework and “nuts and bolts” implementation guidance for school personnel designated to implement this emerging non-discrimination mandate.

The 2018 edition of the Section 504 Coordinators Institute will feature nationally prominent Alabama attorney Julie Weatherly, who has appeared on CBS’ “60 Minutes; Lisa Hardcastle, a veteran Texas Section 504 administrator; and Lehigh’s Dr. Perry Zirkel, university professor emeritus of education and law.

Registrants have multiple options:

Earn three Lehigh University graduate credits, qualify for CLE attorney credits approved by the PA Bar Association, earn Act 48 credits for PA educators, or enroll for non-credit professional development.
Attend the full week or per day, depending upon registrant interest.

Select either a basic track for those new to special education law, or an advanced track for experienced registrants. The advanced track agenda will include all new “hot topics.”

All registrants will receive a comprehensive electronic (flash drive) manual with the latest legislation, regulations, complete Supreme Court decisions, and detailed case law outlines prepared by the attorneys. This manual has over the years proved to be an invaluable resource back home at work.

Registrants interact with a broad-based mix of special education directors, special or regular education teachers, school psychologists, administrators, parent representatives, state officials, charter school personnel, and attorneys from several jurisdictions.

The symposium begins on Sunday evening with a dinner and keynote lecture provided by a national special education leader (details in January) and concludes on Friday with Dr. Zirkel’s National Case Law Update and Crystal Ball. The Friday sessions include a working luncheon.
